These kinds of releases are criminal. What do I mean? I'm talking about labels that try to cram 20+ minutes of music on one side of wax. This just irritates me to a level that is directly proportional to how good the music is. Ambient should have been released as a 2x12". ------------------------------Anyone who says 35 minutes on one side of a record is "absolutely fine" is a person who listens to more classical music than music with substantial bass. Increased background noise is a SERIOUS issue when cutting volume is drastically decreased to accommodate longer times per side. Distortion is mostly an issue when trying to cut at very high volumes, ie: mastering "club" cuts, and most of the distortion issues occur when the music emphasizes frequencies above 10Khz. Moby's Ambient doesn't emphasize those higher frequencies, nor would it require a hot +4 to +6db cut. For an all-vinyl ambient dj like me, this release would have been perfect as a 2x12".
